COMPLNR FIELD GUIDE

ACCC complaints: what the ACCC does and where to start

The ACCC collects reports and enforces competition and consumer law, but it does not resolve every individual dispute.

What an ACCC report can do

Reports help the ACCC identify patterns and conduct that may require enforcement or education. The ACCC decides which matters to investigate.

Individual disputes

For a personal refund, repair or other remedy, contact the business first. Your state or territory consumer protection agency, an ombudsman or a tribunal may be better placed to help with an individual outcome.

What to prepare

Keep the business name, dates, amount paid, description of the conduct and copies of relevant communications. Submit sensitive details only through official channels.

Use current official guidance

Consumer pathways and responsibilities can change. Confirm the latest process at the official ACCC website before acting.
